Mars wedding

By Jade Gemstones

Today was no ordinary day for Raye. It had taken some time to reconcile herself to the fact that things were going to change. She was standing on her balcony surveying her surroundings one last time. Though it was sad to leave she was so glad she was getting married. She was on friendly terms with all the servants here but although she was moving they would still be here serving their mistress. It was nearly time to go so she stepped back into her room. The long train dragged behind her. It was pure white and an excellent contrast to her dark hair. This also brought out the purple highlights of her hair. The veil was held in place on top of her head by an almost orange looking tiara. The material was a type of very light stone. It was decorated by red gemstones. All of which glinted in the light. Her makeup only enhanced the beauty she already had and she wore her favourite red star earrings.

Her dress was very slinky and made out of the smoothest satin. It was held up by small spaghetti straps. The dress seemed to just flow down her body clinging to her curves. The top was quite loose but daringly and decently low-cut. The skirt was tighter but got longer and wider towards the bottom. Her shoes added an extra inch or two to her height and on her wrists were gold, orange, yellow and red bracelets. The piece of jewellery which completed the look was the chain and pendant hanging around her neck. It was all made out of jadeite and the pendant was the sign of mars. Sighing she touched it and recalled the night Jadeite had given it to her. It had been her engagement gift. Shaking herself out of the memory she turned to go taking one final look before leaving.

Sitting outside in her lounge were her closest friends. She had made friends with them ages ago but still she was amazed by how devoted they were to one another.  Each wore beautiful dresses in their planetary colours. They looked up as she entered and smiled. Everyone thought she looked radiant and considered her a friend they were glad to have had over the years. They entertained such sentiments of esteem, respect and affection for her as did she in turn for each of them. She had told them that even though she was to be married and make a new life with Jadeite they could always seek her society and welfare.

“How do I look?”

“Gorgeous, fantastic, lovely, happy…everything a bride who’s madly in love should look like,” came the response from Mina. The others agreed.

“Thank you so much. ‘Want gives to know the flatterer from the friend’ as it was said by Dryden. Though you flatter me I know you are all the very best of friends. To be friends with all of you is an honour.”

“You, my dear, are ‘a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.’” said Amy. It was true that they had never been inimical or hostile and at no point were there fights which turned friends to foes or enemies. They were one of the same nation, party and kin whose friendly feelings may be assumed by many to have faulted at some point, but this had never been the case. Remembering this long relationship led to a friendly address by Raye. Having now made very good friends with the other generals Raye was glad to know that girls she considered sisters would be very content.

The wedding ceremony was all that could be hoped for. Both were favourers of traditions and so the service had been very traditional. There were many well-wishers who came up to the happy couple. Raye had never felt happier and neither had Jadeite. Both couldn’t wait for their life together as husband and wife to begin. They were now intimate associates on the highest level and that brought joy to their hearts. Their friends congratulated them.

At the reception later on everyone remarked on the radiance of the couple. There were many attendants at both the wedding and reception. Raye had to throw her bouquet but instead of just doing so she made sure Serena caught it. Though there were some half-hearted moans no one had any real problems with it. So of course in order to match Raye, Jadeite threw the garter specifically at Darien. Who almost didn’t catch it had it not been or Raye’s helping hand! She looked propitiously on what might be described as the cause or the like; in any case it was a project. She was a keen promoter of helping destiny! Most of her friends had found themselves in more than friendly relations with their significant others thanks to some help from her and Mina.

Later on both Raye and Jadeite danced to their hearts content; in each others arms they found the comfort and love of a lifetime. As a friend to poetry he indulged her. They were paramours of either sex who savoured each moment of the day. Everything, had been, was and would always be perfect.
