I’ll Be Watching You

author: Monica

disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon or the song used. "Every Breath You Take" was recorded by Sting and the Police. I assume everyone's heard it at least once.

rating: PG

authors notes: Yay! My first Raye/Jedite story! I hope you all like it. It’s a tad depressing, but I love the song used. I think it comes together. Make sure ya tell me what ya think!  :)  Please enjoy.

Raye watched the sun rise up over the temple. She had been at work for several hours by then, cleaning the temple, praying by the fire, anything to keep her mind from its usual thoughts ... of him, her lover of long ago, but also her enemy. No matter how much she tried to deny it, Raye was in love with Jedite. Had she only recalled their love before she had killed him in the present, perhaps their outcome would have been different ... perhaps they could find a way to be together. But now, it was too late. He was gone...forever.

She blinked the tears from her eyes and gazed at her crows flying above her slowly, as if feeling her heartache for themselves.

It was not fair, Raye kept telling herself, that things ended the way they did. She was jealous of the Prince and Princess, having found each other and happiness time and time again. Why had she not found happiness? Why was she forced to be alone, traveling through life without love, while those around her were truly happy?

She missed him: his smell, his touch, his taste... She just wanted to be with him, to be held in his arms once more. Perhaps that was too much to ask.

It was then Raye heard footsteps behind her, but she did not look, she was afraid to. Her hopes were so high, and she knew that they would never be true. She glanced at the ground instead, before closing her eyes.

She heard music in the back of her mind, a distant song that echoed through her head, increasing in amplitude as the stranger walked closer. Raye listened to the lyrics pounding through her skull.

Every breath you take, every move you make

Every bond you break, every step you take

I'll be watching you

With each step, the beat thumped louder ... like her heart.

Every single day, every word you say

Every game you play, every night you stay

I'll be watching you

The pacing stopped, and Raye could feel a warm breath brush against her hair.

O can't you see you belong to me

How my poor heart aches with every step you take

She should have been afraid; she should have looked. But, she knew who it was. She could feel who it was.

She would know him anywhere.

Every move you make, every vow you break

Every smile you fake, every claim you stake

I'll be watching you

"Jedite," she said softly.

She felt two strong arms wrap around her gently and pull her into a comfortable and familiar embrace.

"I love you," she said.

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace

I dream at night I can only see your face

I look around but it's you I can't replace

I feel so cold and I long for your embrace

I keep crying baby, baby, please

"And I you, my fire angel," he replied, his voice sweet in her ears.

Raye relaxed in his arms, loving the way he made her feel.

O can't you see you belong to me

How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Raye felt him pull away and cried out, "Please don't leave me! I don't want to be alone any longer!" She did not move, did not open her eyes. She knew she would not see or feel anything no matter how much she wanted to.

Every move you make, every vow you break

Every smile you fake, every claim you stake

I'll be watching you

She could no longer feel his arms and his presence was disintegrating.

"Fate is not so cruel as to keep us apart forever," he said. "We will be together again in a new life."

Every move you make, every step you take

I'll be watching you

His voice softer, he added, "Will you wait for me?"

I'll be watching you

Every breath you take, every move you make

Every bond you break, every step you take

"I would wait forever...for you," she said, the tears again staining her cheeks.

I'll be watching you

Every single day, every word you say

Every game you play, every night you stay

"Jedite," she mumbled, covering her face with her hands. He was once again gone from her. She had lost him, left now with only a promise of his return, one she would not forget.

I'll be watching you
